The Civil Construction Industry: Quarterly Update

We are excited to share the highlights of our recent Quarterly Civil Construction Forum, held at the Bay of Plenty Regional Council Chambers. This highly successful gathering brought together representatives from the civil construction industry and Eastern Bay of Plenty councils to foster collaboration, share valuable insights, and discuss critical aspects of current and upcoming civil works projects in our region.

The atmosphere during the forum was electric, with passionate attendees from both council and industry coming together to contribute to the discussions. The event provided a platform for open dialogue, allowing participants to raise questions, share experiences, and exchange vital information related to civil construction projects.

Local Procurement and Tendering Processes:

One of the key topics that garnered significant discussion was local procurement and tendering processes. Participants emphasised the importance of supporting local businesses by providing them with fair opportunities to secure contracts. The discussions revolved around creating transparent and inclusive procurement practices that promote local economic development, generate employment opportunities, and ensure the growth of our regional businesses.

Training and Development

Another crucial aspect that emerged from the forum was the need for training and development within the next generation of the civil construction industry. Both industry and council recognise he significance of investing in the upskilling and professional development of the workforce. By equipping employees with the latest industry knowledge and skills, we can enhance productivity, quality standards, and overall project outcomes.

Keeping Work Local:

A resounding sentiment shared by all was the importance of keeping work local. Business owners and managers from the industry stressed the need to prioritise local contractors and suppliers in civil construction projects. By doing so, we can stimulate economic activity within our region, create employment opportunities for our communities, and foster a sense of pride in the work accomplished by our local talent.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all the attendees who actively participated in the Quarterly Civil Construction Forum. Your valuable contributions have played a pivotal role in shaping the discussions and driving progress in our region. By collaborating and sharing expertise, we are collectively advancing our civil construction sector and paving the way for a strong future. Looking ahead, we are committed to continuing our efforts in fostering collaboration, promoting local participation, and advocating for the needs of the civil construction industry. Together, we can build a resilient and vibrant community that thrives on the success of our infrastructure projects.
