Completion of a Vision: Final ‘Achievement Board’ Launch in Kawerau

Te Puawaitanga o te Rangatahi (Success of our Youth)

The third and final ‘Achievement Board’ launch took place in Kawerau at the end of March, receiving enthusiastic support from a wide range of services, businesses, community members, and education providers, recognising the on-going achievements of our young people.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau who stepped in to ensure appropriate recognition and ceremony was provided for a campaign & kaupapa that has been a year in the making.

Tarawera High School through their dedication to our rangatahi (youth) in education provides our achievement boards with extraordinary candidates. We are also grateful for the assistance of Unity bank for the mall use, the Ministry of Social Development and the Kawerau District Council for their much needed and welcome support, and of course notable appreciation to Kawerau New World who have been invaluable partners in this campaign and provided a healthy array of kai (food) for all Powhiri attendees.

Te Puawaitanga o Te Rangatahi relies on the generosity and support of public funding, and as with any worthwhile campaign that behooves us to keep alive, we are now seeking funding to not only continue but also further develop this remarkable initiative.

Our goal is not only to uplift youth but also to highlight the connections within the community leading to workforce pathways including the reo rua space within the EBOP.

If you have any recommendations (to recognise the exceptional efforts of Rangatahi (youth) 16-26 years who go above and beyond in their schools and communities in the EBOP) for this Kaupapa, please forward to nancy@toi-eda.co.nz

A message to the youth:

  • Strive to do more than what you're paid for.

  • Give more than what is expected of you.

  • Push yourself beyond your comfort zone.

  • Aim higher than you think possible.

  • And always express gratitude for good health, family, and friends.

There are numerous exciting developments underway in this arena, promising significant economic growth and opportunities. Let the last words lie with our rangatahi:

“Tena, let us continue to support and uplift one another, to celebrate the successes of our people, and to work together towards a more positive and empowering narrative for Kawerau. Together, we can create a future that is filled with hope, opportunity, and prosperity.” ~ Whatonga Ua-Mauru
